There are a lot of techniques today on how to lose excess weight. I’d also like to give you my own tips on the possibility of losing fifty pounds, and even more, in as little as one year. I’m sure that the most important factor here involves eating at least five small, nutritious meals each day. Eating several small meals throughout the day keeps your metabolism stoked, but more importantly, this regimen controls your insulin levels, which will prevent you from becoming ravenous later at night. According to scientific data, in order to lose weight for good, you should eat every three hours.
Indeed, do not allow more than three hours to pass without eating, not every five hours or every two hours, but every three hours. Why every three hours? A number of medical studies confirmed the power of the three hour interval. You see, if you allow more than three hours to pass between meals, your body activates its natural "starvation protection mechanism". When this happens, your body does everything it can to preserve the most calorie-rich tissue in the body to ensure your survival. This tissue is body fat. Yes, your body begins to store fat and, instead, consumes precious fat-burning muscle. You may be losing weight on the scale, but you're not losing the ideal kind of weight. You're losing muscle, rather than fat.
Another step is to choose a healthy diet that suits you in the most proper way. A healthy diet is the one that:
- helps you lose weight and keeps you in the "healthy" range.
- is balanced overall, with foods from all food groups, with lots of delicious fruits, vegetables, whole-grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products.
- is low in saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol. Keep total fat intake between 20 to 35 percent of calories, with most fats coming from sources of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, such as fish, nuts, and vegetable oils.
- includes a variety of grains daily, especially whole-grains, a good source of fiber.
- includes a variety of fruits and vegetables (two cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables per day are recommended for a 2,000 calorie diet).
- have a small number of calories from added sugars (as in candy, cookies and cakes).
- has foods prepared with less sodium or salt (aim for no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day, or about one teaspoon of salt per day).
- does not include more than one drink per day (two drinks per day for men) if you drink alcoholic beverages.
Besides, I advise you to drink a lot of fresh water. It suppresses your appetite, removes toxins from your body and stimulates your metabolism and colon cleansing.
